The thing I find best to keep in mind when choosing models for a new force is quite simply, what models do you like the most and what fits best with the idea of the force you are trying to create.
If you choose the models that you like the most, and models that fit with your force, you will enjoy painting an playing with them more, and you'll have more motivation to both finish painting them and doing the best job of painting them that you can.

Twoguns' has it down. I am running my House army using the "evil midtech" you have above.
3 out of the four you have above are "small" creatures, they only measure up to about the Evil Mid guys waist. on one hand, it means not as much detail work, on the other, much faster to paint and get your army fielded. It's also a good idea to keep the look of your army, so think about that too.
What are you basing your army around?
