I happened in my basement back home an old drawing tablet that was a bit beat up, and would probably never be used again (now that I have a drafting table). I decided that it was probably a good size for a small game board for roughly 200-250 point games. Size: 26" x 34" Used: 1- fiber board drawing tablet 1- roll of Ready Grass brand vinyl mat (Green field) 1- can spray adhesive 1- full can of Krylon brand Rock Texture paint Xacto blade Still to be done: Sprinkling of Static Grass. Adhesive over-coat for protection.

Very cool work mate! Looks like a nice easy board to move around and pack away...and also looks nice to play on...

Great idea! Now you just need to get it into production! Just add some magnetic terrain pieces.

Okay update, the glue I got is apparently crap, it's been 18 hours and it's not dry, and it's leaving a white dusting over the whole board. I'm going to have to look into a different glue that will dry better but still adhere to vinyl, but it looks like I'm going to have to remove this glue.

That's no good mate, sorry to hear that. How about PVA glue, I wonder if that would stick to vinyl...is the vinyl smooth? If it is maybe you could rough the surface up a bit with sand paper to give the glue a better chance to adhere to it...

I'm going to try contact cement next, but I need to work up the motivation to get this glue off.

I actually have this stuff called "Goo-Gone" which yields great results. What I do is a wash of that, then a soap and water wash, and then it's good, and smells wonderfully of orange zest!

This has actually given me the idea to one day turn my old cutting mat into a portable gaming board. It folds in half, but recently part of the folding area got cut. The mat still has a lot of use in it, but with some duct tape on the seam, and some green felt and flock, I think it could work for an impromptu, casual, tight gaming board. On your board, I have to say, great use of old materials!

okay, so a bit of an update. DONT BUY TREE HOUSE STUDIOS SPRAY ADHESIVE. Not only did it not dry, but it chemically reacted with the paint, making both tacky and unusable. I can't remove the paint from the board, and the Goo-Gone anti-adhesive also chemically reacted with the spray, and caused it to get gummier. I've been trying to get the stuff off my hands for 45 minutes now with only mixxed success. The grass was fortunately salvaged, the board cannot.

possible salvation
I tried spraying the board black, just to see what happened. Seems to have solved the glue issue. the paint is sticking, I'll just have to re-paint the board. not a big deal.
