Hi Everyone,
I love Gruntz 15mm and am frantically painting up my 15mm models and miniatures but it seems a crying shame to just leave all my 28mm stuff in the shelf. I personally don’t want to play games of Warhammer 40,000 again but I would love to use the models to play Gruntz types of games.
A big part of what makes Gruntz special is the sense of community and the joy that the players get in offering advice or tweaks to the rules. Instead of trying to write 28mm version on my own, why not tap into that enthusiasm.
So the idea of a Gruntz 28mm community version was born.
Instead of writing my own rules and pushing them out to others, my plan is to invite people to share their ideas with me and the forum and I would simply collect them and write them up and share for free.
My hope is that we can create something fun together and if there is demand we can try and persuade Robin to make the 28mm version his next project with the same high production values as the 15mm version.
I’ll throw myself into project management and editing and leave the exciting part of writing and developing new rules to those that want to.
I have set out the project in formal manner so it’s easy to see the aims and timescales.
Objective
Produce a rules pack that enables owners of the Gruntz 15mm rules to be able to play Gruntz in 28mm scale.
The pack will consist of three parts
1) Core rules amendments
a. The changes and amendments to the rules to play the game using 28mm scale miniatures.
b. It is not a new rule set – but an amendment to the Gruntz rules
c. This is about changing ranges and distances, not about rewriting Gruntz from the ground up.
2) Perkz and Modz amendments
a. List of changes to modify Perkz and Modz to 28mm scale
3) New advanced and optional rules, Perkz and Mods
a. This is where we go crazy
b. I want to capture all those great ideas out there that players have created and bring them into a single document.
The rules pack for the community project will be
• Free
• In a Word document format that will be issued as a PDF.
Schedule
This is the plan – I expect real life will get in the way and some deadlines will slip and change but its always best to have a target to aim for:
• 18th may: Announcement post – this one
• 18th May – 15th June: collect first version submissions
• 1st July – Publish ver – 0.5
• 2nd July – 28th July
• Playtesting
• Submission of new ideas
• 29th July – 11th Aug : update
• 31 Aug: publish ver 1.0
Submissions
The plan is to find a way to include everything people submit. Serioulsly.
There will likely be lots of different opinions and ideas for things like movement and ranges and in reality whatever is picked as the “core” modification won’t make everyone happy.
For my sanity I will pick the core modification but then include all variants in the optional rules section. Then during playtesting ask everyone to give feedback and we can debate in the forum which version to use as the final core version. If there is a definite winner, well, we can just change the core rules section.
To make a submission just send me a PM or post a message up in the forum with this information
• Which type of submission
o Core rules amendments
o Perkz and Modz amendments
o New advanced and optional rules, Perkz and Mods
• If it’s a rules/ Perks / Modz amendment
o Page number of existing rule / Perkz / Modz
o Rules section
o Your amendment
o And I would love to know any reasons and ideas behind the change. Sometimes its hard to articulate a rule in a few lines, so it would be fantastic to have the ideas behind the change
• If it’s something completely new, just send type it up
• Your name – so I can give include you as the author of the rule
• If you do not wish for anyone to use in an official commercial 28mm release please state “Not to be included in commercial product – only for community 28mm version”
o In case this 28mm takes off, and Robin does decide to make it an official product it would be easy to remove all the rules where someone specified this.
o If the submission does not have the line it will be taken as permission to use in any official Gruntz 28mm product.
o I am not sure if there is a chance of this, but at least we have covered it off.:-)
For example
• Core Rule amendment
• Page 8
• Squad Coherency
• Reduce Squad coherency to 2 inches
• Because I will use big squads of swarm aliens in my games or 28mm, if the coherency is 3 inches I won’t be able to fit them on the table
Simple right?
Please feel free to join in giving new rules or offering feedback. I think we can make something special.
Cheers
Mark
