Does clear field of view imply that that the target unit is not in cover? i.e. woods?
(I had units from far away "spotting" for a mortar unit that got to ignore my troops cowering in the woods - shooting like they were standing in the field)
Does this mean that just because the weapon is indirect it is easier to see and hit the target?

Ahhh... wait. After re-re-re-re-reading the rules on this.
So spotting has to come from the mortar platoon itself? (pg 17..... "friendly squad member able to spot...")
or not.... (pg 25 "...... must have a friendly ground or air unit that was able to spot....") Note no mention of squad. But does mention aerial or drone specialists...

Yes a friendly model can spot but they get the spotters view for cover!
So if they are in cover to the spotter then they are harder to spot because of that so they get the cover if in the open then no.

Got it. I think.
So if using a spotter, and the target team is in a woods - then the -1 Shoot Modifier applies If using the mortar team (or indirect firing team) itself to "self spot" then no -1 Shoot Modifier applies.
A dedicated "spotting" perk would be a good addition, or make Command and Squad Leaders have this ability and pay to give it to vehicles, drones etc.....

Yes I was thinking that a specialist for a spotter would be handy. Have not had time to playtest ideas for it yet though!
