I really like what you're doing here. Pike blocks sound a bit scary. Until you start cranking up the Gatling guns or start firing area effect weapons at them.
I'm still trying to figure out what the humans on the other side of the gate should be like. My first thought was ancient Greeks, because of the great figure ranges available. And hoplites riding dinosaurs sounds pretty awesome.

Have a look at these minifigs greek riders. So for hoplites on dinos you need only to find dino. Maybe some 15mm lizardmen dino cavalry figures will be good, but you need that mount to be saparate model from rider.

Great ideas! Thanks guys.
I'm thinking I'm probably going to start with a larger dinosaur with a howdah and guys standing on it. The individual cavalry will probably happen as well. As will the dinosaur pulled chariots. And, of course, an ancient tech heat ray on the back of a triceratops.
I'm still working on my sci-fi 15mm army though, so the modeling project that is Hoplites riding dinosaurs is still in the que.

I had mentioned this project to a friend of mine sort of in passing. He ended up buying me some plastic dinosaurs from Reaper's Collecta line. www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Collecta/sku-down/88121He's going to get a howdah on his back and a single guy strapped to his head to steer him and to aim the heat ray that will be mounted on the top of his head. He's a bit big, probably close to 1:72 scale than 1:100, so he'll be nice and large on the battlefield. I'll probably do the hanging down style howdah. And make it big enough that I can just put my miniatures in the howdah rather than gluing in dedicated passengers. The hanging down howdah would also make more sense given the sloping of its back. I'm trying to figure out whether or not to repaint it. The howdah, driver and heat ray would probably be easier to build right on the miniature. While its head and face need work, the hide is actually really, really well done. CollectA is definitely on par with Schleich in terms of prepainted plastic toy dinosaur quality. I'll probably repaint him just to keep the consistent style/texture that painted miniatures have when done by the same person.
