I think Robin has mentioned there are big changes to assault coming in 1.1 so this is maybe a little too early but: Fjodin has suggested we adopt universal assault stats as follows:
And Melee 2 - Green - poor melee skill. Civilians, Cultists, bandits. 3 - Trained - trops with assault rifles and other humans. 4 - Seasoned - Orcs, Gulns, Grenadier Guards or soldiers with better strenght that ordinary human 5 - Vetertan - Xenomorps, Tyranids. 6 - Expert - some huge beasts 7 - Elite - giant creatures
In my game yesterday I had Sahadeen firing at Protoene Khanate in light cover. So shoot 4 versus 12 guard +1 for cover, 13-4, 9 to hit. When the Sahadeen were stationery, 8 to hit, and prone 7 to hit. When the Sahadeen assaulted this went up to 12 - 3 total 9. Damage factors were the same except for the re roll on the first round of assault. I have a gut feeling assault should be more deadly than general fire. Should we revise melee stats again maybe 4 is a better stat for average troopers. What do others think?

One specific thing about difference between 3 - Trained and 4 - Seasoned assault for humans!
In era of modern assault riffles solfiers are better trained in shooting, rather than bayonet fighting. Also assault riffle is not so good for melee. So most of modern/future SEASONED regular humans should have 4-Seasoned fror shoot and 3-Trained for melee. Orks, Khurasan Sharkmen, Gulns and Rebel Minis Sahadeen should have Seasoned for assaul, because they are good in close combat.
Also soldiers of late 19 and early 20 century with bayonetted rifles sgould have 4-Seasoned for Assault, because they are trained for bayonet charges.
Here are 2 examples of standart sci-fi regular soldier and Boer War era British infantry.
Rebel Minis Earth Force Marine Shoot: Seasoned 4 Assault: Trained 3 Guard: Medium 12 Soak: Light 12 Mental: Seasoned 6 Skill: Seasoned 4
Boer War era British infantry (Bayonetted rifle) Shoot: Seasoned 4 Assault: Seasoned 4 Guard: Medium 12 Soak: None 10 Mental: Seasoned 6 Skill: Seasoned 4

Where do mini mecha specialists fit on this scale?
