Greetings,
At the GuardTower in Columbus on Monday we played a 250 pt Gruntz game. Sorry that I have no pictures, maybe next time. The game pitted a lightly armored infantry force supported by APCs and platoon (3) of walker specialists against a force copter borne of jump troops supported by a tank and a Mech. The scenario ran 6 turns.
The scenario was placed on the planet Corregidor which is undergoing terraforming. After the planet’s liberation from an unfriendly alien power, the several hundred thousand humans on the planet are under the control of several megacorps. Generally, these megacorps cooperate with one another, this spirit does not generally reach the mercenary troops who are in the employ of the corporate entities and so an unofficial war is underway on across the planet’s surface. Friezen’s Rot a debilitating and ultimately fatal disease afflicts many of the civilians of Corregidor. Until recently there was no cure, but scientists have discovered that the sap of a native tree has been found to be resistant to the rot.
Two corps sent troops, with the promise of hefty bonuses, to extract sap from several of these trees, that’s when the fun started. The table was 4’ X 6’ and was festooned with terran trees, as well as many “crystal trees” that normally grow in the region. Also present were several plant analogues which potentially had the sap that promised a cure for Friezen’s rot. Commanders and dismounted specialists could spend an action and make a successful skill roll to collect the sap. Victory in the scenario went to the player who had secured sap from the most of the four plan analogues.
Despite practically destroying the my opfor, my specialists kept ducking when it came time for their skill rolls and I only scored one “sap point.” My opponent had more *sigh.* I shall lick my wounds and get ‘em next time!
