One of the things I've been enjoying most about starting to play and collect in 15mm is re-purposing old models from my collection. As soon as I started building a Federal army from Khurasan, I remembered this old "Ape Suit" I had from the brief time Mongoose did their Starship Troopers game and miniatures. It didn't take much imagination at all to envision it as a big mech for my Federals and Gruntz games. The original model had long, clawed arms, but for 15mm it really needed big guns instead. I searched through my 40K bitz, but nothing fit the bill. Then I recalled seeing alternate Space Marine dreadnaught arms from the Polish company, Puppets War. www.puppetswar.euSure enough, perusing their website found me a great set of Walker Gatling Gun arms. My biggest concern was the scale - would they be too big or too small on the ape suit? When they arrived I was pleasantly relieved to find them pretty much perfect for what I was wanting. The only alteration I had to make was to widen the shoulders a little because the guns hit the upper legs of the suit. This time the 40K bitz box paid off, and the conversion was done. The only other thing I changed was replacing a Khurasan gun turret from the Heavy Armoured Wartruck model for the original on top of the suit. These photos are of the rechristened "Lancer" mech - the paint job is far from done but most of the model is base coated. The mech stands right at 3 inches tall. I also magnetized the arms so I can switch them out if I want to try others. Brent

Great work, it looks great. With the large barrels those weapons look more like rotary heavy-shell launchers. It looks like a lethal anti-infantry and light to medium vehicle killer.

That is a great conversion. It looks truly menacing.

Very nice. Love the idea about switching out the arms. Only thing is the seams on the legs. I hate it when my models do that.

Yeah, agree about the seams. But I have some of that new liquid Green Stuff, and that would be a perfect place to try it out!
