Just made this topic sticky. The terrain boards are now in progress after 4/5 hours on Sunday PM. In terms of format I was planning 3x3 tables as intro games, you can get straight into the action on the smaller boards to get a feel for the game. I wanted to provide laminated force cards, so players can grab a set an play. The main terrain board would then be available for a full game which players could bring figures for. Can I make a quick roll call of attendance and if you were help to help out or if you wanted to bring figures to play with. I wanted to avoid getting the forces all sorted to discover that everyone turned up with their own models..

Hi Robin. I'll be attending. I can bring my NKDF if you'd like?

Hi Robin
I'm still coming. I can rustle up a squad or 2 of Arc troops if you need them, or my competition entry squad.
Just let me know what's needed.
Matt

Hi Robin, hope progress is going to plan.
I was wondering if you will be demoing the V1.1 rules at Salute or just using v1.0?

Probably add in assault rules so people can try them. I will have only printed old copies of v1 with me though and some hand outs to cover assault and auto fire.

OK. Salute is just a few days away, I am already burning the midnight oil developing and laying out the cards, two nights with a 1am finish and I am ready for a early bed tonight. What I like about this prep work is the amount of issues I am ironing out in the master points spreadsheet I use to merge the data into the cards.
I even had time to send some samples to a printer for a quote on some printed cards! This is a long way off but I might make some generic cards for forces from Companies like GZG, CMG and Khurasan + others. I want to provide everyone with the flexibility to use an army build and print your own designs on the fly, however I am sure there are players that would just like to quickly buy a couple of forces and use some pre-generated cards. I am exploring the costs at the moment and have some interesting ideas on making them wipe-ready so they can be re-used without have to seal them into a collector card sleeve.
Back to the Salute situation. I have three games tables, all very small. In fact you will probably have a shock when you see that they are smaller than the photos I have been loading on the blog. This was deliberate though for three reasons. Firstly I wanted the games to start instantly, so players can get straight into action to see how the rules work. Secondly I wanted boards I could quickly play test and photo on instead of the need to setup a big terrain area. Finally I also wanted something small which would transport easily between my house, clubs and shows. I actually think the fact I am taking 3 boards makes up for the small size and it will allow up to three simultaneous games. Together they will be a total of 9ft long!
I have pre built some forces to use and showcase on the day but players can bring their own miniatures. If you do bring figures, don't bring a lot, one or two vehicles, a couple of squads and specialists will do because the boards won't support a massed battle and would look strange covered in vehicles with no where to go. Please also bring stat profiles because I don't think I will have time to support helping people setting up stat cards etc. Don't worry about having perfect scores for the stat cards though, just knock some up and we can just go for a game.
My perfect situation would be players enjoying the games and me providing advice and help. I also want to play if I can, so I might squeeze in and play through the game I have organised for the space station board with the Alien "Prime" Queen and the cargo loader.
Please only painted figures, it would be such a shame to have unpainted miniatures on the boards when it is a bit of showcase for the scale and SCI-FI.
I think I now need to meditate! 3 Months of prep work and planning and I still don't feel prepared!
Looking forward to meeting any new members and having a chat with existing players!

One final note. Almost everyone that plays Gruntz is called Gary or Matthew. So on the day I will no doubt forget names and just end up guessing that you are a Gary or Matthew - please excuse this ignorance I am terrible with names!

Good luck and have fun, all that will attend. I'm across the pond and not fabulously wealthy, so I won't be joining the fun Can't wait to see all the cool stuff after the show.
