So I'm mounting my infantry onto pennies. I figured it gives everyone a uniform 20mm base and I haven't been able to find bases cheaper than a penny.
But what about larger figures? What do you use for bases or what size? I'd make some myself but I'm worried about them being uniformed.
What I'm currently on is motorized Heavy Gear figures. The old Recon Infantry on cycles. I also wanted to get more WKG MW figures but I want all my Cav pieces to be on the same size base.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Links to were a guy could get a bunch (would prefer US shipping but I'm not against getting stuff from overseas) Sigh. Then on to Commanders and should I even worry about basing Mecha and Armor units?
Thanks.

Its a shame if you were in uk you could use uk 1p and 2p they are 20mm and 25mm but not sure if you could use 'fender washers' at a pinch instead

Fender washers are what I use.
Pennies - most Gruntz, SA 7/8 fender washers - Some Specialists ( also PA/Jet Pack Gruntz) 1"- Commander, Scout / Light Mech, Worn Suits 1 1/4" - Jet Bikes, Flying Drones, Light/Medium Mechs. 1 1/2" - Medium/Heavy Mechs Over this - Heavy/Assault Mechs, Vehicles
It works and makes visual recognition easier and has the added bonus of being magnetic. The purest in me wants exact sizes ie, twice the area of the penny, thrice ...etc. But that's just my obsessive nature.

So you use cirles for all your bases then. Wondering about the large circle bases and Urban fighting, if there would be issues getting them around the buildings.
For basing and Assualting I was thinking round base for infatry and square/rectangle bases for mecha, vehicles and cav units.
So far I'm getting there is no standard, and just have fun with it? What works best and easiest for you and your group?

I do use all circles, if you think about it, every square base has a circle in it.
The real issue when you get into the large round bases (40+ mm) is whether or not the models will fit. Square bases in Urban fighting line up better, but again should not have a clear advantage over circles.
I also agree that there are no set conventions for basing, it is more about what works and what fits.

I use classic 5pence piece (Queen's face down) for bases. I think pennies are a little too big, not by much but I prefer the smaller size. Commanders and single Gruntz type Specialists (Medics) are placed on 2pence pieces. I use Fender washers for everything else, accept the really large mecha bases which I buy from www.magneticdisplays.co.uk/ You can see the washers in use here. There are 3 sizes of washer I use for Specialists. The large metal disc on the mecha is from magnetic displays in the UK and made from die cut steel making it an ideal solid base. I am in touch with megnetic displays to see if they are happy to list a small range of bases which can be used for Gruntz. I can't currently find the metal discs on their site, so I think they only sell them at conventions.
