Firstly, is the react fire similar to overwatch?
That is, does the defending unit choose when to fire at the assaulting unit, or do they fire at the start point of the assaulting unit? If the assaulting unit is further away then the weapon range stat (i.e. at 9ins compared to weapon range stat of 8ins) then there would be a -3 penalty, if they wait until the unit is within the range stat this would be removed.
Secondly, if defending unit is on overwatch I assume the -1 shooting penalty still applies?
I also find it interesting that a unit is penalised for shooting in overwatch (when you would think it's prepared for an enemy to appear in front of it) but not for react fire (when an enemy unit suddenly appears charging towards it).
Thirdly, according to the Assault Overview Chart (pg 31 on v1.1) under 2 Engage, the question is "Did Defender React Fire?". Does this mean attempt to react fire (i.e. tried but failed the mental test) or did react fire (i.e. passed mental test test)? If the first, it mean the defending unit can have 2 attempts (react fire & if fails react assault) to attack the assaulting unit, if the latter then they only get one attempt (react fire).
