My Laserburn order of battle includes scouts on scout bikes who can dismount to fight, and also scout vehicles with crew that are defined as able to dismount. Am I reading the rules aright (p91) in that I just buy the vehicle and then deploy the crew as standard scouts if they decide to scout forward on foot?
Also, are there any options for remote control by the dismounted crew? E.g. they dismount to scout ahead but then can control the missile launchers on the bike to provide indirect fire support on a target that the dismounted crew can spot.
The Laserburn ToE includes scouts with grenade launchers and cyborg dogs. The dogs can be used to spot for the scouts which is great because they are smaller and faster, thus being harder to hit, leaving the scouts in cover or out of sight. In Laserburn they are deployed as a fire team of 5 scouts and 5 dogs, but I was wondering how to emulate this in Gruntz. I'm thinking that maybe they need to be individual Gruntz Specialist teams because I don't think I can have a whole squad of guys with a grenade launcher with the rules as written, but I was not sure quite how to achieve the design goal of teams of spotters and shooters. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Riders standard gruntz squad and bike make the unit can fire but can't maneuver with out rider on board. See above Again two seperate units either Grunt or specialist or a mix of both. Give dogs "light them up" and scouts "active camo" Hope that helps Cheers Matt

Thanks, I may be getting too hidebound by the Laserburn lists. Your ideas make sense to me, especially regarding the cyborg dogs, so I shall play with that idea and see where it leads. I'm still happy to consider other approaches too.
If the scouts did not have remote control of their bike guns, I assume that I could do the dismount as per p91. Is that right?

You could do but buying a proper Gruntz squad with separate bikes will probably work better. This giving seperate abilities etc to the Gruntz and the bikes. As the bike is a self contained (robot brain or remote) so can still fire but can't move without its Gruntz rider Hope that makes sense ... had to re write it three times to hopefully make it sound right!

Yes, makes sense. I know what you mean about the rewrites. I'm just doing that for the talk I am giving tomorrow (actually today, but I count it as tomorrow because I plan to get some sleep shortly). The worst thing is that I know I shall amend things on the fly as I talk anyway, so why do I prepare so completely beforehand?
