Having detected the psychic activation of a Khadaris crystal, the Protoss teleport into a Terran base to negotiate their artifact's return. On arrival the Protoss discover the Terran's have long since abandoned their base, and the reason soon becomes apparent. The Zerg have used the crystal to lure the Protoss into an ambush. They erupt from their hidden deployment and begin their attack. A defiler lobbed its corrosive mortar at the lead Zealots, only to find their force fields impenetratable. The Zerg Queen spat an explosive brood shell at a Dragoon, collapsing its power field and weakening the field of a neigbouring Dragoon.
However, the Protoss had not arrived unprepared. They had summoned a powerful Archon to aid "negotiation". The monsterous energy creature hurled a psionic blast at the approaching Zerg, vapourising several Zerglings and severely wounding an Ultralisk. The Zealots moved to deal with the Defiler and a flanking brood of Zerglings, whilst Tassadar and his Templar killed half of a unit of Hydralisks with their psioic pulse and storm attacks.
The thing to remember about Ultralisks is that wounding them just makes them angry. The hulking Zerg crashed into the Archon, which was reeling from a direct hit from the Queen's brood shell and was now without its power field. Both of the Ultralisks scything blades struck home and the Archon collapsed in a mist of dissapating energy. The zergling had swamped the Dragoons, which were severely out skilled in close combat, the Dragoon that had lost its powerfield, fell to a wave of slashing chiton, and the last Dragoon merely held its ground. The Hydralisks turned to engage the Zealots that had killed the defiler, killing two, but being wiped out in return. The second Zealot unit finished off the last of the flanking Zerglings, but had lost half their numbers in return.
To make matters worse, Zerg reinforcements were arriving.
With the Ultralisk still raging unchecked Tassadar moved in to engaging it, with the remains of the two Zealot units rushing to try and aid him. Tassadar struck the Ultralish but failed to penetrate its carapace. Luckily the Ultralisk struggled to land a blow on Tassadar as he ducked and weaved on his wave of psionic energy. The Templar squad moved up near Tassadar, but lacking any talent for close combat, they could not aid in the fight against the Ultralisk, or help the zergling encusted Dragoon. The only other target was the Zerg Queen. Three of the five Templar hit the Queen with their psionic pulses, two of which rolled box cars on damage, blasting the Queen apart.
Lacking the Queens mental will to control them the Zerg lost heart and began to withdraw. Tassadar launched a blistering Psionic storm at the retreating Ultralisk, killing it and the Zergs chances of effectively fighting the Protoss.
