This was a "Meeting of Minds" standard scenario (for those who don't know -> armies line up along both long edges of the board and thrash it out - at the end of 6 turns, the army having destroyed the most points in enemy units achieves victory). I chose this basic scenario because I wanted to play test some units in these forces.
Terran Commando's (my son)
1 x Heavy Grav Tank
1 x Medium Mech
2 x Terran Commando Squads mounted in IFV's
Aliens (me)
1 x Aliens Brood Assault Transport
2 x Aliens Brood Lords
4 x Aliens Warrior Broods.
Start
Both Terran Commando Squads started the game mounted inside the IFV's. One of the Aliens Warrior Broods mounted the Aliens Brood Assault Transport, clinging to it's underneath, whilst another two of the Aliens Warrior Broods crept through the large network of piping and tunnels underneath the facility, represented as blips.
End of turn 1
During the first turn, all forces advance at full speed towards each other...the Terran Commando vehicle's gliding above the surface on grav fields whilst the slower Mech pounded along behind...the Aliens closing more slowly from the opposite direction, some above and some below the battlefields surface.
End of Turn 2
Throughout turn 2 both forces moved towards each other, some still at full speed, whilst others moving more cautiously so as to start punching fire down range. The Heavy Grav Tank got two good hits on the Aliens Brood Assault Transport, the 120mm Railgun punching straight through its armoured carapace tearing a hole right through its body, and the ATG Missile detonating and causing some significant damage. The Medium Mech also fired its 80mm Railguns at the closest Aliens Brood Lord, causing massive damage, almost killing it.
During Turn 2
The horrendous fire received didn't stop the Aliens Brood Assault Transport from closing the gap enough so that the Aliens Warrior Brood it was carrying could detach themselves...
...and launch an assault against one of the Terran Commando IFV's, swarming all over the vehicle. Unfortunately for the Terran's, the reactive fire from the 20mm Chain Gun took down none of the fast moving Aliens...
...who then sacrificed four of their own brood, to cover the IFV in their powerfully corrosive acidic blood, weakening it's armour for the remaining Aliens Warriors to badly damage the vehicle with attack against its flank armour.
End of Turn 3
Turn 3 saw the casualties start to mount. The already damaged IFV was torn to shreds by the Aliens Brood Assault Transport whilst the Terran Commando's who had dismounted from that very vehicle, poured fire into and killed the remnants of the Aliens Warrior Brood that made the first assault upon their vehicle...only to see another squad emerge from a shaft entrance not far away in the center of the facilities compound.
The Heavy Grav Tank took out the badly wounded Aliens Brood Lord whilst the Medium Mech fired more 80mm Railgun rounds into the incredibly resilient body of the Aliens Brood Assault Transport. On the other side of the battlefield the second Terran Commando Squad dismounted and both it and the IFV fired into the Aliens Warriors as they approached, killing all but three...then losing two of their own to the Aliens following assault.
During Turn 3
After having their vehicle swarmed and damaged badly by the Aliens Warrior Brood, the Terran Commando's Squad commander orders them to dismount and fire upon the Aliens swarming the IFV...and between dismounting and firing, and reactionary fire as the Aliens attempted an assault, they wiped out that entire Brood.
End of Turn 4
Between an overwhelming assault from both the Aliens Brood Lord and the remaining Aliens Warriors, the Terran Commando's on the far side of the facility take severe casualties and withdraw. Whilst on this side of the facility, the Terran Commando squad is assaulted by the Aliens Warrior Brood, gunning some down as they close, but falling to the last man to the deadly claws of the Aliens. The Medium Mech stands it's ground to gain better accuracy as it unleashes another two 80mm Railgun rounds into the body of the advancing Aliens Brood Assault Transport. In return, the gigantic creature sprays a mass of acid all over the Mech, which begins to eat away at it's armour and external working parts. The Grav Tank glides around and punches another 120mm Railgun round and another ATG Missile into the beast causing a large amount of damage and critical trauma. The Grav Tank crew become nervous when they realise the blip on the radar screen, indicating unknown lifeforms moving directly below the surface of the ground, now shows this menace as being directly below their own position.
End of Turn 5
It seems the Terran Commando's are on the back foot, and during turn 5 they are assaulted by the Aliens across the board, severe damage being done to the far IFV by the rampaging Aliens Brood Lord and small amounts of damage to both the Heavy Grav Tank and the Medium Walker...the Terran's return fire whilst accurate, didn't deliver any significant damage.
During Turn 5
An Aliens Warrior Brood emerges from an exit hole they created for themselves from within the tunnel system below the facilities grounds, just next to the Heavy Grav Tank...
...they then immediately swarm the vehicle, sacrificing some of their own once again to assist those that remain to launch a more damaging assault...
End of Turn 6
Hoping to break contact and draw back to fire it's 20mm Chain Gun at the assaulting Aliens Brood Lord, the remaining IFV was torn apart by the large creature as it attempted to disengage...the same creature then launched itself at the remaining Terran Commando's, killing both.
On this side of the facility, the gigantic Aliens Brood Assault Transport charged at the Medium Mech, tearing at its weakened armour and destroying it utterly. The Heavy Grav Tank glided away from the swarming Aliens Warrior Brood on its powerful grav field, avoiding any further damage as it disengaged. It then swung around and fired at the gigantic beast that had just destroyed the Medium Mech...again causing some serious damage, bringing the beast to it's knees, however still not quite killing it.
Realising they could probably stay in the fight and at least take down the severly damaged Aliens Brood Assault Transport creature...but also realising that two Aliens Warrior Broods were lurking nearby and with another large creature threatening them from the other side of the facilities compound, the crew decided to withdraw from the battlefield.
