So this weapon has an area of effect template of 2", where all other gatling weapons have an area of effect template of 4".
With the 2" template being placed directly on top of the target model, it's not really going to be too often that more than a single model is hit (never if the player always keeps his squad members spread out).
With these types of weapons, it's the incredible rate of fire that allows it to saturate an area effectively, not the caliber of the weapon. So a lighter caliber weapon should be able to hose down an area with just as many rounds as a heavier weapon (the range, damage and AP reflect the power of the round, not the area saturation).
When we compare the Specialist Heavy Projectile Full Auto, with the Specialist Gatling, we see they both have Range: 12, Damage: 8 and AP: 2, so presumably they are of comparable power, however the Specialist Heavy Projectile Full Auto, a much slower firing weapon, has a decent chance of hitting several targets (with a possible spread of 12"!!!) where as the much higher rate of fire weapon that saturates an area with rounds, may very well only hit a single target (with a spread of only 2"!!!). This is reflected in the points cost, of course (5pt vs 1pt), however it just doesn't sit right...I think the Specialist Gatling could be bumped to a 4" AOE to fall in line with the other gatling weapons(and have it's points bumped up to reflect the extra effectiveness).
Also, why is the Specialist Heavy Projectile Weapon (non full auto version) worth 2 points while the Specialist Gatling is worth 1 point...they have an identical stat line except the Specialist Gatling has the 2" AOE?
