Hi Guys After a question about transport I had a thought! Dangerous I know! I was wondering if the transport slots for the game could be modded a bit for version 1.1 Lets say 1/2 slot for a specialist and a commander so something like a jeep sized vehicle could be used (looks a bit silly when up to eight Gruntz get out of it) and 1 for normal Gruntz squad and two for Power Armour, Light Mechs and a Gruntz squad with SA (or 1 1/2) as it does seem a bit odd with transport slots in the game sometimes :!: At the moment it is 1 for everything apart from PA and Light Mechs! Also I was wondering if with ASV that if they lost there transport slots that could be used for Main Weapon Mounts instead! Just another idea this would mean Raziel's wonderful ASV could be used without lots of mods Only a thought Also on my club forum I got asked about having a commander in a tank instead of on foot well this did get me a bit stumped but thought the command module could be used for a tank instead. So what do people think ? Cheers Matt

Well so far I have always used the one transport slot for a Commander on the basis that he/she would take up the space in an abstract way by being more "important", rather than it being a physical space issue. Also command vehicles often tend to be APC style e.g. Kravak Command APC. So with 2 slots in most larger APC's you can use the spare slot for a Commander or Specialist and still carry a squad.
I think ultimately I was looking for a simplified transport slot rule that covered most situations. A .5 space is interesting though because you could fit in a Commander and a Specialist support robot in a 1 slot unit.
Perhaps one to consider because, as you say, it would help provide a profile for the scout and light vehicles where a .5 slot would let you drive your Commander around in style and get him to key locations without using up a larger transport APC that should be focused on squads.

I'll jump in on this one because it was me that asked Comstar the initial question.
I have zero experience of the rules so far so please disregard any stupid ideas I'm about to put forward!
It might be possible to keep the 'simple' space requirements in transports by approaching it from a slightly different angle....
Commanders take up no space. this allows them to 'grab a ride' inside an existing transport vehicle but keeps them out of things without a slot like tanks. This would work if you consider your commander to represented by a single model.
As part of the points allocation you allow commanders to buy a transport at a very reduced rate (think jeep, kublewagon, limmo, or any other lightly armoured but non offensive small transport) that only they can ride in. Keeps them mobile but doesn't cost a fortune for a full ASV transport. This works if you consider your commander to be a bloke plus attendant lackies who just wouldn't fit in a full troop transport.
Cheers Havoc
