During the Battle of Campbell's Farm (gruntz15.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aar&action=display&thread=1246), a single alien drone escaped the area with new expertise leeched from a Redemption City scientist. The drone hid and metamorphosed into a Queen capable of passing on this new found knowledge to her brood.
As Shepherd Goldstein (now leader of a paramilitary team) tracks down the Chamax Queen to a storage building at Shepherd's Cross, he has no idea that the aliens can now trick the synapses of anyone viewing them to appear as innocent humans.
For this game, the Queen is hidden in a central building. Goldstein's band of armed shepherds deploy, unit-by-unit, at a random board edge each turn. They are trying to herd the aliens with the ultimate goal of eliminating them and their Queen).
The Queen is able to release broods each turn but must make a skill check. The target number is more difficult if she wants them to have the Mimic perk. For the Chamax, the goal is to get as many broods off the table as possible (different edges mean they will get to infest different locations for future scenarios).
A unit of Proxies (remote controlled power armour) deploys to at the eastern edge...
...they advance to a low wall and take out some aliens but are then charged.
Another brood emerges from a bug hole (centre)...
...as a unit of militia also appear from the east.
Goldstein arrives in his battlesuit but sees only humans rushing toward him. He moves up, heading for the Chamax Queen's building. The "disguised" brood charge the militia and their alien brethren break off from the Proxies to join the fray. As the militia are torn to pieces, Goldstein realises he has been duped!
A brood heads north (toward camera) and are met by another unit of militia that have been scouting the area. (The Queen is in the dark green building behind the containers)
The militia are joined by a unit of bots who arrive from the west.
As the militia advance, they are attacked by the Chamax brood. The survivors run in terror!
A new Chamax brood makes a break for the southern road. They are disguised and run straight past a battlesuit that emerged from the south (seen centrally). The suit is preoccupied as it heads for the Queen (her building is the one behind the hologram to the right). They are, however, spotted by another suit to the west (behind the wall by the yellow roller vehicle). They are picked apart although one of their number evades death and gets off the western table edge (toward a small agricultural space port).
Another brood is released and cautiously heads north, aware that
the militia and bots are advancing from the north west (somewhere behind the cows).
Shepherd Goldstein comes a-cropper at the hands (claws) of the Chamax.
The death of Goldstein makes hiding in a building near to his position a much safer proposition for that brood who were moving north. They take cover as bots sweep to the east looking to cut them off. The northern road heads back to Redemption City (and there is already a brood loose there from a previous game).
Terrible reactions from the bots (and what is left of the terrified militia), mean that the brood slip past and head back to the city. This brood is able to disguise itself and will cause havoc in a population centre!
With her work done, the Chamax Queen leaves the feed store and follows her single drone toward the western spaceport. The last remaining Battlesuit moves in to stop her...
...but fails!
So, a follow up game will see a whole new colony of aliens (who are able to hide among humans) move upon Redemption City. They might meet up with the brood that are already there (though this existing group's fate must be determined in another game, first).
Also, the Queen will head to the space port and, no doubt, try to mesmerise a pilot to fly her to...well...wherever she wants to go. In our background, my Anarcho-Communist Commonality have signed an accord with Ross's Second Confederacy to cooperatively fight the Chamax. Perhaps the Queen will head to one of his worlds as a pre-emptive strike. Poor sods!
Thanks to Jarec for this post: gruntz15.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tut&action=display&thread=1167 which is how I constructed the hedges for this game.
