Justification:
So I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to make this 'pod happen. What we have here is an example of a 'standard' martian tripod from the All Quiet on the Martian Front game on kickstarter. Being a huge fan of Well's sci-fi I had to give this a shot.
Lets start with weapons:
Heat Ray: Martians have Heat Rays. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a dirty liar. I opt to give the weapon two distinct settings: A focused beam and a sweep. Admittingly I took the idea of this from the game these models are made for but it made sense to me. As Someone playing a Martian army true to the Wells mythos, tripods will be the only form of vehicle in your army. And while a focused beam of molten death is great, it's pretty impracticable for shooting infantry.
(Note: I put the [E] there to remind me and my opponent it is an energy based weapon)
Tentacle Arms: The book had them, the movie had them, the model has them.
Modz:
Dread: In all the literature, these things are huge, domineering, uncaring constructs that move quickly about the battlefield in a manner so smooth it's almost biological. There are several abilities you could use instead, "Dark Matter Fuel Rods", "Terror", even the "High Flux Reactor" would be at home. So why Dread? Because for one, unlike Terror it's passive. I can move around with it. But the main reason is that it can be used offensively or defensively. On the attack, it can be used to rush the enemy and have the chance of free hits as they run in terror. On the defensive, it hampers CC oriented troops that may sneak up on you.
Power-field Generator: Book/every movie has them. I'm not going to deny this unit it's shields. Powerful defensive fields that will further protect your martian tripods from the hazards of war, and if you're running all 'pods you want to keep them alive.
