Jester Atomic
"Service with a Smile"
Jester Atomic is one of the highest paid mercenary groups of the modern era, thanks in part to their outstanding reputation on and off the battlefield as rugged individuals who take the time to know the men they're fighting along side, as well as how they fight.
Jester Atomic, (officially booked in the Mercenary Database as 'Jester Atomic Corps') got it's beginnings during the infamous "twenty years war". During which, Private First Class William Summers, a well regarded infantryman in the Earth Federations defense force when the Glun Horde used illegal atomics on a battalion only 30 klicks away. the ensuing radiation badly scarred William, burning over 80% of his body. The most visible and disfiguring was about his face, where the skin had tightened grotesquely due to the radioactive burns. This tightening caused his mouth to stretch into what seemed to be a large smile, the lips pulling near back to his molars.
In spite of his appearance, he rose quickly though the ranks of Earth's galactic army, earning the name "Jester" due to his light hearted mannerisms in battle, often flinging insults and jokes at the enemy as he fired upon them. His permanent grin only added to this reputation. After 30 years of duty, he was retired my the Earth Federation with honors. However, civilian life never settled with William. His deformities wee met with resistance and horror by common folk, and his mind never left the battlefield. In the five years after retirement, he met many individuals with a similar feeling of disquiet. It took little convincing to start up a mercenary corps.
Choosing Ventis VI, a world burned to ash many thousands of years ago and now sterile and radiation free, as their base of operations, the newly christened Jester Atomic Corps set to work building their reputation.
Now, with over 5,000 members strong, Jester Atomic is never in fewer than twenty theaters of war at any given time.
