After looking at various AAR's I noticed a huge variation in overall terrain but more importantly, it was consistent with respect to the players. I suppose our game backgrounds, playstyle and stock of pieces play a large role in determining what feels right but I though a general question about the amount of terrain seen on your typical board was of interest. Our group falls in the heavy terrain category as we like to force the players to develop critical thinking in lieu of making the rules the driver. To give an example, I would guess any spot on one base edge of the board can only see 50% or less of the other side. A higher percentage has at least some cover in-between. See my attached picture. OK, so the question: If my example is 60-70% terrain on a board, where does your group fall? What do you think that does to your average game related to playability, time, average to-hit rolls, fun, etc. Squinch Attachments:

im on the higher side. we try too do a lot more urban warfare. (we sometimes do a side table with sewers aswell) but we also have a sore spot for open 20 too 30 percent tables where one side is trying too gain control of the other sides train rail entry points. we usually play that as a long rail line with a single building minor unloading equipment and minor veg around the sides of the table.

papabees - No, I wish I did. Sadly the bluebox (electrical bldgs) weren't mine, just the pink foam critters near the top right of the photo. Sorry for the clandestine look, my camera case fit too tightly around the camera lens, giving shadows in the corners. That was probably the best of the lot since I deleted the rest of those pics a few months ago. Squinch

relegunvrs - tell us more about your sewer fights. Do you have any pics of your setup? Any special rules?

My level of terrain changes depending who I'm playing. As Matt has already mentioned, we've used a similar amount to squinch when Matt has been hosting.
At my geek hut, we tend to fight in busy cities so you will get some long LoS down roads etc but also lots of choke points with car parks, planters etc. My modular city was too sparse to begin with so I added some longer vehicles to break things up.
Most recent games have been narrative which has dictated most of the scenery. Unit types influence us here, too. Ian's Chamax Hoard are lethal up close so there needs to be enough open ground that I can get a shot in before he is upon me but not so much that it's a turkey shoot. This is where a good mix of open and dense terrain makes sense as we manoeuvre round it as per our respective preferences.

We tend to use a higher amount of terrain. I find without the terrain it comes down to who has the biggest gun. I enjoy the challenge covers. Also gives the combat bugs a chance. Cheers

squinch- i dont have any pics at the moment but the next time we play ill take some pics and post them. what we usually do is play on a 6 x 4 table with a 2 x 4 sewer table set up beside it. we use limited visibility and allow bug type creatures too scurey allong the walls so we add 1 too their soak while in tunnels.
