A couple of games back gruntz15.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aar&action=display&thread=1013, my Anarcho-Commies formed a dubious alliance with an insect-like race to which they had attached harnesses as a means of control. Despite winning the battle, some of the aliens escaped and the battlefield became infested by a brood.
Dr Hott, who had been studying the battle, needed to be escorted off-world with the data she had acquired. This escape was documented here: gruntz15.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aar&action=display&thread=1028. It was a Pyrrhic victory, however, as an alien "queen" managed to shower Hott with genetic material. This material incubated on the way back to Redemption City University.
Soon, images of the usually tranquil campus were spreading around Redemption City, showing security guards and aliens rounding up scientists and students. It appears they are trying to get them aboard the shuttle to take them elsewhere (This is the alien mission). Civilian rescue vehicles were sent to the university with an escort of Guardians of the Revolution (their mission is to escort the civilians off the table). The Skill stat was used for both sides to coax the pheromone-addled humans during the game.
Broods of aliens wander the campus. Squads of uni security guards can be spotted on top of some of the buildings. The aliens, perhaps tapping understanding of humanity via Dr Hott (seen here atop her apartment block), are anticipating an armed response. The shuttle is top-left.
GoR troops arrive with a rescue vehicle.
Aliens mesmerise a group of humans. In the background, another group has already succumbed to alien control and are being led to the shuttle.
The alien queen watches as more scientists are led through the campus.
GoR Bughunters unleash flame throwers against a brood. They hope to clear a path to the civilians by the statue....
...however, another brood lurking in an alleyway also have design on the humans. Fortunately, this brood is distracted by another threat and moves elsewhere.
The rescue vehicle is able to approach and the GoR troops eventually encourage the confused group aboard. This takes a while though (failed skill check!) and other aliens are advancing to tear the soft vehicle apart. The GoR troops disembark to move round the vehicle and destroy this new threat, allowing the hovercraft to escape.
Dr Hott watches events play out. Just what is this connection between her and the huge alien queen?
Near the car park another GoR unit arrive too late...the humans (seen previously) have been led away. The GoR with rifles take shots at the departing unit (out of shot) but the flame throwers cannot be used for fear of harming the civilians. These turn instead toward the alien queen!
Meanwhile, on the road approaching the shuttle port, a GoR unit has been destroyed by a brood (top left). This brood escaped the area and are now at large on the wider city! The sacrificed unit did, at least, allow another rescue vehicle to get past unmolested.
A unit of heavily armed, remote controlled Proxies are dropped from the air to escort this vehicle as it approaches the shuttle. Five humans are now aboard the shuttle which is guarded by the aliens that took them...
...and two more broods are nearby with 10 more of Redemption City's finest minds.
The proxies move in and eliminate a swathe of aliens. Five more captives are put aboard the shuttle but the awe-inspiring proxies have broken the hold of the second brood and encourage the humans to move away. At the same time, a rescue vehicle drives alongside the shuttle...
...and in an act of bravery (or idiocy), one of the crew connects his vehicle's winch to the shuttle to stop it departing!
Unfortunately, the engineer and his winch are promplty devoured by aliens. His vehicle is tossed aside and the shuttle takes off!
Aftermath:
10 scientists have been taken but 10 were rescued. Some of the controlled security guards were overpowered (centre of pic) and found to have parasites living in their heads. These were removed and the guards later recovered but remain in shock over their actions. The queen was destroyed in flames and Dr Hott has been arrested. Although now quite mad, she has been able to provide insight into the aliens which she calls the Chamax Horde. Apparently, they had only ever used native animals as hosts and thus had no form of intelligence...until humans arrived and had their genetic material added to the gene-pool. Who knows what they are now planning?
The hunt is on for the shuttle and its occupants (this will likely determine the next game) and Redemption City is on high alert as five aliens, perhaps capable of reproduction, have escaped in to the shadows!
So, there we go. Ian and I have a nice little narrative going. We managed to play the game without any sort of points being used for balance and put the Skill stat to good use for some of the actions we made up on the fly (like the mechanic and his winch).
There's a few other photos that weren't used in the report here:
