Hello. A few weeks back I asked about identifying squads. I had some great feedback in that thread. A few days ago, my bases finally arrived from Litko. 20mm wood bases, and 20mm magnetic bottoms. These rock, BTW, the magnetc bases allow for easy storage. Plus, they have additional benefits, as you will read later. I want my army to be as flexible as possible. If I am playing against someone who has their own army, great. But most likely, I'll be playing against someone who has no army, and will be using my figs. So, I came up with the idea to have a "leader base" that is empty. There is a space for the leader fig, a 20mm "hole" with some metal there for the magnet base I use to hold on to. Also, a holder for a flag, that will identify the side and squad number. This is my prototype. It's meant for squad leaders. I am planning for a more elaborate base for the force leader. It's a small wood base, some metal mesh I had from making chain link fence terrain (and keeping skunks out of my yard), some plastic tubing that was $0.19 a foot, and a toothpick flagpole with a flag I made in photoshop. With one of these for each squad leader, and the more elaborate one for the overall force leader, my minis can be totally flexible. Whatever force combination I need for each side, I can do just by making the appropriate flags. The magnet mini base and steel mesh allow the whole base to be picked up by grabbing the mini by the head. I'm either a genius for coming up with this, an idiot because there is a major flaw I don't see, or a copycat because someone has already done this. So, which is it?

Grates against my sense of asthetics if I am honest, but a good idea. (I have seen similar.) How about a genius copycat?
