Hello! I'm Dave from San Diego, USA. I use to play D&D and other RPGs in the '80s. I played the occasional wargame back then, also (Chainmail, Ogre, Striker, etc...). I cast my own figures from lead then, too.
Then I went off to college, became a rock star, got tired of being broke, and got a job programming computers. My life now include a tiny little house by the beach, a awesome wife who has no interest in my "nerd hobby" and a renewed passion for tabletop games.
I started several months ago playing Full Thrust. I've played several games, and painted many starships. After 7 weeks, my Hotz mat finally arrived (those who know, know that was fast).
What's my point again? Oh yes. Gruntz. Tabletop wargaming. Again, after all these years, ground troops on the table, with terrain and tape measures, and all that.
I'm so stoked. In the last few weeks, I've got 4 squads painted, 2 more primed, and lots of cardstock "print and fold" buildings & shipping containers made, some plaster rocks cast and painted, "alien" plant life made and painted, etc.
Now all I have to do is actually play the game.
I'll play a few solo games in the next week or two. And there are several San Diego based gaming conventions coming up (San Diego is the 7th largest USA city - and the most awesome, according to me).
So what's my point? I use to love miniatures and that love has been renewed. Rottenlead and trybeinganihilist videos on youtube have certainly fuled my fire. The Gruntz rules are simple enough to play easy but complex enough to be interesting (compared to Stargrunt II - too complex, and FUBAR - too simple).
I hope to take my new terrain and squads into combat this week, even if it is against myself.
Thanks everyone for renewing my old passion for tabletop wargaming, and the tip and suggestions I've taken to to heart.
