Hello everyone!
Recently picked up a print copy of Gruntz v1.1, totally loving it!
Well done and thanks for that!
OK so on to my question. ;-)
One of my buddies and I got in on the Kickstarter run a couple months ago by DFG (Dream Forge Games).
Reason being wasn't for the sort of 40k Apocalypse scale Mechs (not a fan of 40k, but no need to go on about that!), but for the 28mm troopers he was also working on.
Now the first of said troopers will be arriving hopefully some time in February, and what we would like to do with them is...
Play Gruntz, in 28mm!
Because awesome figs and an awesome system deserve each other, eh?!
Now the ranges in 15mm would work "ok" at the 28mm scale, if compared to the rather short ranges as seen in something like... 40k /cough/.
But those kind of ranges do feel kind of stunted at that scale and I was thinking we'd probably want to scale stuff up to get a bit better feel, while still trying to maintain the current level of play-balance.
One easy way to go would just be:
Doubled the scale (lets just round it up and call it 30mm) so Double the ranges.
- But our preferred table space is 4x4, and I think doubling the ranges with that table space could give stuff too much range vs play-ability.
So mostly I am leaning towards the idea of increasing ranges by +50%.
- This would include movement, by the way. It seems to me that to maintain current balance that Move and Range should be scaled equally.
So a Move 4 would become Move 6.
Range 10" would become Range 15".
Now I get that as a House Rule we can do whatever we want to with it and "see how it goes" but I do want to get some feedback on all this by the Veterans here.
So any input and opinions are very welcome.
Worst case scenario, if scaling up the rules seems to be breaking it, we can always just go with Rules as Written, it's not like those 15mm ranges in 28mm scale are the shortest around, heh.
Cheers all!
~R~
p.s. we do actually plan to play Gruntz at 15mm at some time down the road too. ;-)
