Turn One (note the labelled photo won't upload at the mo - here's the original to be going on with!) Coops Jackson tank rolls out towards Anton's APC taking cover behind a wall in his deployment zone. It's a long range shot at a target in cover but, like a Chinese swimmer, Coops sets the bar for implausibly high dice rolling by hitting the APC for 4 pts damage - have it! Coops' APC containing his commander and Gruntz 2 moves alongside the Jackson. Coop's Mech moves out at flank speed straight towards objectiv followed by the infantry with their much smaller legs Anton Issuing psuedo-Russian commands and an oddly familiar "wargh!" Anton rolls out Black Ivan at flank speed straight at the objective. No doubt Anton's keen tactical mind is hatching some fiendish plan. Either that or it's stuck in forward gear. Gruntz 1 move through the field in front of their start position looking to gain a good field of fire from the farmhouse. Matching Coops' central drive Anton's Mech and APC (containing his commander and Gruntz 2 also) converge on the centre of the table.

Turn two Coops Spotting an opportunity, Coops'Mech targets Anton's Mech with missiles at long range and hits! It connects for a massive 11 points of damage but Anton's Mech, despite losing two C boxes takes no crits and keeps on rocking. It is smoking a bit though. Coop's Gruntz 1 move up into the building on the right flank of his Mech Anton APC moves up and commander pushes the gruntz squad out of the doors (move it you slags!) Gruntz 2 open up with their RPG at Coops' Jackson tank ... scoring a hit, however the armour is too thick and the shot bounces off the steel beast's hide. Gruntz 1 occupy a building in front of their field clambering onto the roof for a better view of the battlefield Black Ivan bring's it main gun to bear on Coops' Mech but the shot goes wide Anton's smoking Mech limps to cover before hosing Coop's Gruntz 1 with its twin gatling cannons. The fire is devastating, and waxes the entire unit! Will no one think of the children!

Turn three Anton Commander pushes Gruntz 2 in the building onto the objective - taking a RPG shot at Coops' mech. It hits and causes 4 points of damage Gruntz 1 team goes prone and RPGs the mech too but misses! Black Ivan moves to flank the mech and takes a shot at long range but misses. Anton's Mech moves to engage its opposite number blasting away with its Gatling cannons both miss however; at this point Anton start's to wonder if his dice are on his or Coops' side! Anton's APC wisely moves into cover! Coops Coops' Mech moves to the left engaging Black Ivan in the building on the left flank. Missiles and medium projectile gun hit doing 7 and 4 points of damage respectively. Coops' APC opens up full auto with his turret cannon and secondary GL but both miss. Coops' Commander pushes infantry squad out of the apc and into a building near the objective. They fire across the street at Anton's Gruntz 1. Small arms fire wax a single model but the SAW and GL are ineffectual. The Jackson tank fires it's gatling weapon into the infantry waxing an additional 3 models.

Turn four Coops Coops' Mech stays still and focuses fire on Black Ivan; it scores hits with missiles for 4 damage and 2 with the projectile weapons. It's minor damage, but Black Ivan is taking a hard pounding (double entendre entirely intentional). Gruntz 2 near the objective open up again waxing a total of 2 more of Anton's Gruntz 2 causing them to fail a condition brown test and run into cover behind a wall. Coops' APC fires at Anton's commander but misses with his projectile weapon. More humourously Coop's GL misses also and deviates onto Coops' commander. The comedy is spoilt however, when the shot doesn't damage - boo! The Jackson tank opens up on the Anton's concealed APC and hits for 7 points. Anton taking the situtation in hand Anton's commander moves to suppressed unit, activates Take the Pain Gruntz 2 moves into the building and fires RPGs into the flank of the Jackson. Yet again shoddy Space Russian RPGs fail to hit the target. Black Ivan flanks Coops' APC and fires a long range shot. This time it connects the shot rocks the APC for 5 points of damage. Stal! Stal! Stal! Infantry on the roof fire their RPGs at the mech hitting and causing a a critical taking out its tek Anton's APC fires at the infantry near the objective failing to have any noticeable effect. Anton's Mech moves at flank speed to reposition on the objective where Coops' force are starting to mass.

Turn Five Anton ANton's Mech moves out and engages Coops' Gruntz 2 threatening the objective. The first shot deviates over the commander and hits him for 2 damage. The second is a direct hit waxing 6 and causes them to condition brown away. So far the gatling cannons on Anton's mech are by far the more deadly thing in the Space Russian arsenal! Anton's Gruntz 2 RPGs the flank of the Jackson tank which hits but is ineffectual (again) Gruntz 1 RPGs the Coops' Mech from their roof top vantage point hitting for 2 damage Black Ivan unmasks to flank Coops' Mech at short range but the alpha strike misses leaving Black Ivan in the positional equivalent of having his arse out at an Erasure concert (80's reference for you younger readers). Coops The Jackson tank moves into short range on Anton's Mech and hits with its main gun. The shot wrecks the heroic people's Mech and every true war gamer present lowers their head in remembrance. *sniff* Coops' Mech steps back into cover and engages Black Ivan. It hits for 3 damage with its missile causing a armour critical. Black Ivan is in a bad way now! Coops' APC moves and fires its GL into Anton's APC but misses Finally Coops' commander uses take the pain to remove the suppression on Gruntz 2 and get them back into the fight!

Turn Six Anton Anton's APC moves and fires at Coops' Gruntz 2 but misses Anton, having got that late game gun frenzy decides to assault the Jackson tank with his commander! (Note we found the rules a bit confusing here. The rules talk about gruntz squads getting reactive fire opportunity and it also mentions that vehicles can reaction fire with their anti-infantry weapons however gruntz squads have to make a mental check to be able to do so. it doesn't mention vehicles automatically passing such tests so we were a bit confused by that. We ruled it couldn't for the purposes of trying out an assault!) Assault attack misses though - boo! Gruntz 2 move onto objective. Looking to make a name for themselves they fire their RPGs at Coop's APC but miss as well. These Space Russians have obviously been at the vodka. Gruntz 1, holding their rooftop, RPGs into side of Jackson and hits for 2 damage (a bit more like it) Black Ivan continues its dance with the mech but misses again! Coops Mech fires at Black Ivan and this time it connects with a missile hit for 10 damage. This causes a catastrophic explosion and Black Ivan is no more! Jackson reverses and shoots at the commander hitting for 7 damage from the main gun and 2 from the Gatling gun. it's not enought to kill Anton's commander though APC tries to finish off the commander hitting with two full auto shots causing 2 damage. The GL fires and hits but causes no damage. The game ends and, due to Coops' not reading the engagement rules properly, it appears Anton has won by having a Gruntz squad on the objective at the end! Hope you enjoyed that - we certainly did. So much so there's a rematch on 17th January. I'll see if I can get Coops and Anton to let me have a copy of their cards too to include in this thread. Your friendly war correspondent El Pollo Diablo (vengo para ti!)

Looks like a really nice terrain layout. Is that a M48A3 in the mix? I have a skytrex one of those that is long overdue a coat of paint and would look great on the table.

Anton's army is based on Khurasan miniatures and Coops has repurposed some Flames of War Vietnam minis. The boards and terrain were original built for Force on Force/ Ambush Alley I believe. Anton970 can put you right if I'm wrong!

Are the Arms on Coops' mech ones that come standard or are those from another kit?

Looks like a great game... but I gotta be honest; when I read "Space Russians" I said it in my mind as "RUSSIANS IN SPAAAAAAaaaaaace..." (via The Muppet Show)
