I'm still going through the rules as a newbie but one thing which jumps out at me is how poor/short the weapon range rules are. I fully admit I'm coming at this more from realistic games view than 40k version of sci-fi/fantasy though.
I understand the effective range for weapons rule and those are not unreasonable IMO for many small arms but for longer ranges saying it's double is the max range value just seems to be odd/wrong. That's especially true for a game which states it's aimed at 15mm scale. Modern firefights are often 50 to 200 yards range and weapons such as the M-16 are still very accurate to 500 yards. Just ask any Marine.
It seems more sensible to ignore max range comments and have no max range for any weapon. That's an easy fix.
The larger weapons though seem even worse. Realistically most of these weapons would be in always be in effective range while on a table, taking modern weapons in consideration. So for that I was thinking again of using the above mod for direct fire. That's under whelming if anything and I am tempted to ignore all the range rules for these weapons completely. If anything the negative should likely be less for out of 'close weapons range' but I want to not unbalance the game too much before I have played it.
I believe this may make the game a little more realistic, but my question is has anyone else do this as the rules as written seem very odd for a 15mm sci-fi game?
Note, in most cases this won't make much of a difference for ground troops as terrain should get in the way. For vehicles yes it would make them more deadly and also vulnerable. So just as in a modern conflict having vehicles too close together is a bad thing. You would not have loads all bunched up on a table.
As this is one of the first things which has jumped out at me as odd in the rules so far I though I would see if others make such mods.
Well thanks for any comments/feedback and I'll continue reading them.
