I NEEDED (okay wanted) some wheeled tanks to go with my Antenocitis Workshop APC's and Zebu. I had hoped to pick up some Boarhound armoured cars in 15mm at Salute to fill the gap. No joy BTR90? Again no joy Any thing with wheels on that would fill the gap in 15mm? Nope Nada (GZG had some offerings but were taking cash only) The by pure chance I stumbled on a 20mm vehicle retailer (SHQ Miniatures) and spotted their Sdkfz/2 Puma. Great multi part white metal kit for only £9. I bought 2 as medium tanks for Gruntz and I think they scale up rather well!

Interesting how they are smaller than a 15mm model even though they are 20mm. More evidence that a lot of the 15mm sci-fi ranges are simply over-sized for the scale. It is not a problem though, just worth noting that companies vary things a lot. I would actually go as far as saying that most 15mm sci-fi is closer to 18mm and sometimes 20mm.

Oh I am not restricting myself to 15mm scale. I picked up an N scale Battlemech to use for my Fed's heavy support, and I bought a bunch of 12mm Heavy Gear minis to use as power armor/light mecha Special Forces. And check these out mr-bugman.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/salute-2012-coverage-part-1-dropzone.html10mm sci-fi line that I think could be plundered to fit in for 15mm Gruntz Games. I had been looking for something more "alien" to use as a 3rd Gruntz faction. I think those techno-organic faction models look like they will be superb for my plans. Lots of Drones and controller vehicles.

The German 8-Rads were pure Science Fiction (stylistically) to begin with, so no stretch there.

Those buildings are going to be panels that you glue onto box's. I like the idea of keeping the costs down by producing panels. BUT... Very disappointed to discover that they look quasi-gothic. I would really prefer some proper sci-fi buildings like a Mega City-1 style of modern with something different and a world away from the typical nearly-Games Workshop gothic / gotham style.

To true about the quasi-gothic style I normally don't buy terrain but Mega City-1 style buildings in 15mm would definitely make me say... ...SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!! ;D

Okay, just hacked the gun off the Puma and replaced with a Tau rifle. Primer on, base coat on and first layer of future. Bring on the ink...

As a side note, the Hawk Wargames buildings shown above have been released as full color PDFs on the Hawk site. The doors are a touch small for 15mm, but you really have to look to notice.
Can't wait to see the Sci-Fied Puma.

It is not a problem though, just worth noting that companies vary things a lot. I would actually go as far as saying that most 15mm sci-fi is closer to 18mm and sometimes 20mm. I have a civilian/military base by my house. i.ytimg.com/vi/PDfkMnXfRYM/0.jpgI was surprised at the size of the Bradly next to the Abrams. I drove by it numerous times and never looked until someone was complaining about the size of Combat Wombat's models. I've been looking at 1/100th scale models, 1/144th, 1/72, 10mm figures, 12mm, 25/28mm too. As long as they fit my "table scale" (not too small/large and look good in the army) it's all good. The Puma looks good. I'd add a AMS somewhere on that model. Too late now but I would have thought about changing the tires. Maybe like the Big Bob tires from Combat Wombat or some other big off road wheels to make it look more sci-fi-ish.
