Some close ups. The gruntsUNSC from GZG. While there are better looking individual minis out there, this range of models is my favourite overall. The HAMR teamI love this set! Great big rifle able to put down small tanks. The CommanderI knew I wanted several miniatures on the base to represent the extra toughness and when GZG released their command/specialist set I knew what I had to do. Added a backpack from the new NAC power armour troopers to the comms operator. With an Orion power armoured trooper from Blue Moon as the actual commander. The rideI always thought hovertanks looked iffy but then a few months ago I completely changed my mind (I still don't know why!) and suddenly thought they were really cool! So naturally my EarthSec forces would have some sweet hover rides. To be honest it's a bit small, but I really like the rugged look!

Thanks to everyone for submitting some excellent entries, it was very nice to see so many conversions and scratch builds. It is great to see so much creativity in 15mm which is very different from some of the mainstream wargames which are very much stuck in a set few factions. It was a difficult choice as judge to select a short list, so I copied all of the images out and worked through them to get a feel for the paintwork and overal feel of the units. So here we go. I also had to stretch it to 4 places because I could not decide on a final 3. In 4th Place: Evilevan. This group were striking with some amazing base work - I want some of that static grass! I think the red and grey scheme works very well. In 3rd Place: maxxev A very alien feel to this set, with a fun running tentacled pet-like thing and the conversion of the fin flyer. I was wondering what sort of squid was flying it. It all works together really well. In 2nd Place: Shep Rim Defectionist with Boral Comm Skiff. This set really fired my imagination, I like the theme and despite the skiff being do-nought shaped it just felt right and inspirational. A very original sci-fi unit which I wanted to fly around in the skiff! (drumroll) (drumroll) (drumroll) Finally in 1st Place : Firebroadside I like the martian reds, visor work, dusty shading and detail on the hover APC. The troops look almost insect like, which is how I would imagine they would move in the hard suits - like deadly mantids. Great Work! Some other notable mentions: Little Big Wars for a solid unit and a brilliant choice of force leader "Comedian" and FoxfirePro for a fully scratch built drone ship with drones which were menacing and should be put into production! The four winners should take a bow and drop me a PM with address details so I can send out some goodies. In addition the frist place does also get a free printed copy of 1.1 which puts more pressure on me to get it down! Everyone that entered will get a discount voucher for the print version of the rules. Once I have sorted out the pricing with the print on demand setup I will confirm the details and will drop a note by PM.

Wo-hey! Would you look at that! I'm humbled and honoured! Especially considering the stiff competition. I actually thought Maxxev might win the entire thing out of sheer bloody originality! Hehe! Now I'm looking forward to seeing the 1.1 rules and getting back to painting more deadly mantids...

Thanks everyone! Especially to Comstar who put this thing together and then had to bow out. Perhaps we could make this an annual thing? I'm sure there would be twice as many entries if we did it again next year.
