I've recently acquired a single pack of CMG's Astagar (http://www.criticalmassgames.com/images/mercenaries/MERC8-600.jpg) and wish to use them as X-Com-style Snakemen to spice up my Grey Alien battleforce. However, that pack only includes five figures, while a GRUNTZ squad should include six. How should I resolve this?
The same goes to Rebel Minis Men-in-Black (http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-51356505839231_2181_0), which would also be perfect to spice up the Greys. Again, only five of them... And I don't want to but 30 minis (6 packs) just to have 5x 6-man squads...

I had to base the rules on the most common pack size which was the GZG 8pack.
They put in:
1 Leader 5 Troops with standard weapons 2 Troops with heavy weapons
So the rules covered the 6 models + 2 additional squad attachments.
With odd sizes I normally buy enough for 2 or 3 squads and use the spares for a specialist or Commander base. It would never normally leave me with more than 1 or 2 spare models which I would normally still paint.

Post any odd numbered ones in the trade section or use as something to sweeten other trades?

Find a like minded person(s) and buy together?
Should not be hard for the Astagar, but trading is also an option, as is buying enough for squads as you need to reach a certain level to make shipping viable in any event.

Honestly I really wish there were rules for accounting for odd squad sizes...

I will be dropping something into 1.1. to cover squads of odd sizes. It is just a case of covering the points calculation appropriately.

agreed about odd size squads. if you think about it, 6 gruntz are really a fire team. Not in the British army...... A fire team is 4 and a section is 8, 3 sections to a platoon.

Agreed but this is just one of the game mechanics and there are already options in the rules to increase squad size swarm and attachments so ten Gruntz or six with two attachments. I have used different size unit (only had five models) I just used the full cost divided by six and got a ruff number if you want to reduce the numbers round down if you want to increase round up that seems to work out well. Only one thing I would do is if you are combining fire still limit it to 5 models assiting otherwise it is going to get real silly:(

Really, the fixed squad size is my one big complaint with the system.
